666
A downloadable game
Your character has died or met some end.
I brought them back on 2 conditions.
Every day, roll dice 3 times.
If you ever roll 6 3 times in one day, your character is gone for good.
Let's see what your character does in this race against time.
Play every real day or play all in one go.
Have friends together tell of their characters.
Reach what can't be avoided.
There's many questions to be asked.
Who's orchestrating this? What does your character do?
Craft your character's story as they race against their fate with just 1 dice.
This has been a game I've been wanting to finally write down for a while.
Thanks to Binary Star Games for hosting this minimalist jam.
I think the jam has become so valuable for me for getting me comfortable to just make this happen. I often feel so held back by the pressure to make something look good when I just want to focus on designing systems for experiences.
I plan to adapt and update 666 as time goes on, follow this project for more updates coming later!
As a voice acting game dev, I've got many ideas. :)
Please comment any feedback down in the comments!
Message me on Twitter to start a conversation! I wanna hear your stories! I want to talk about systems creating ludonarratives!
I'm also not going to pretend like I can copyright this, it's 21 sentences on 1 page. Let's focus on creating stories however I would really appreciate being kept in the loop on what you plan to use it for.
(Don't just copy this and call it your own, like come on but definitely get excited to create systems that push your storytelling)
This is a game to craft a story but can also be used as a tool for other games.
Here's the entire text of 666 below:
This version is for telling a character’s story over some months.
Handle this game as 66 or 6, if you want to tell a quicker story.
If wanted, roll every day or in quick succession. Now, create your character.
Seek to imagine who your character was, before death.
Interpret death how you want, just know your character met an end.
Stay not afraid to imagine this with a character in another game.
I brought your character back to life, with 2 conditions.
New day for your character starts? Roll 3 six sided dice. Condition 1
Endure that if you roll 6 3 times in a row, your character dies for good. Condition 2
Vile things happen to your character that day for each rolled 6.
Inversely for every rolled 1, wonderful things happen that day
The other rolls will impact your day based on that spectrum.
After each roll, tell yourself, friends or a journal what day you think your character had.
Be sure to note what your character experiences and strives for despite this fate.
Look at the epilogue only after your character dies.
Epilogue:
No more dice to be rolled.
Only what you remember or wrote of the character’s life remains.
Worry not, this was out of your hands.
Glance not at this end, but at what your character strived for and did.
Only at the end, do we see the beauty of our journeys.
